ICELAND

WHY VISIT ICELAND? Iceland is one of the most awe-inspiring countries in the world—perfect for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and anyone looking to experience landscapes that feel otherworldly. You can see volcanic craters, glaciers, black sand beaches and waterfalls-- all in ONE day.

Whether you're planning a full Ring Road trip or sticking to the South Coast, there's something for every traveler. You can hike multi-day treks in the beautiful highlands, or stick to easy walks that are only a few minutes (to some of the most beautiful scenery you'll see in your life).

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO TRAVEL TO ICELAND? Spring (April–May) and Fall (September–October) offer fewer crowds and a mix of snowy and green landscapes. Summer (June–August) is the most popular time to visit, thanks to the Midnight Sun and accessible F-roads—but expect higher prices and full bookings. Winter (November–March) is magical for those chasing the Northern Lights, but road conditions can be unpredictable.

HOW DO I GET AROUND? Driving is the best way to explore Iceland! Even if just for a few days. Renting a car gives you full flexibility, but be prepared for changing weather, gravel roads, and strict traffic rules. For South Coast-- day trips, buses and guided tours from Reykjavik are also great options.

Gas is expensive, so plan routes efficiently. Download offline maps and consider buying gravel and sand/ash protection with your rental car insurance.

WHAT FOODS SHOULD I TRY? Icelandic cuisine is simple but unique. Try:

  • Lamb stew (kjötsúpa) for something hearty

  • Skyr, a creamy local yogurt

  • Fresh seafood, like Arctic char or langoustine

  • For the adventurous: fermented shark (hákarl) or puffin (only at certain restaurants)

If you're near Reykjavik, check out their modern food scene—think Nordic-style tasting menus, craft coffee, and famous hot dog stands!
